Students to return to blended learning if COVID cases remain low

Fayette County schools are currently remote, but if the county remains above orange students will return to a blended education model.

Wednesday night the Fayette County Board of Education met with Dr. Anitia Stewart to review Fayette County COVID-19 metrics, and by the end of that meeting the decision was made to continue blended learning until October 30th.

That decision will remain in effect if the West Virginia County Alert Map reflects them to be in green yellow or gold.

If the county is in orange or red they will revert back to remote learning for the safety of faculty and students.

"Also another decision was made that, if we are in orange or red and the students return to school, they cannot play any athletic contest until Thursday. They felt it was for the safety of the students. They need to get them out on the practice field for three or four days, they don't just want to throw them back into a game situation."

said Superintendent of Fayette County schools, Gary Hough

Hough adds that buses will be distributing meals to students regardless of income and enrollment on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
