MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) - The Salvation Army of Mercer County is going virtual for the holidays due the COVID-19 pandemic.
The organization is creating the Red Kettle Challenge, a new online twist to the traditional red kettles seen at Christmas to raise funds for those in need in Mercer County.
The Salvation Army says those interested can join the challenge by either getting a virtual kettle bucket, or bell ring virtually.
"What we want to do is gather with some churches, and start little competitions with our Rotary clubs, and other clubs in the community. Different agencies like the hospital, and different departments in the hospital can have a little challenge among themselves and have different groups wherever in our towns that we serve," Lt. Dennis Smith said.
The amount raised with kettles will directly affect how many families the Salvation Army can serve during the holidays.
