MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) -- COVID-19 cases at two Mercer County schools have been classified as 'outbreaks' by the West Virginia Department of Education.

The WVDE's online chart of COVID-19 outbreaks in schools lists Bluefield High School and PikeView Middle School. BHS lists 2 cases, while PVMS lists 4.

The WVDE defines an 'outbreak' as two or more confirmed COVID-19 cases among students/staff from separate households, within a 14-day period in a single classroom or core group.

PikeView Middle School moved to remote learning on October 10th after several positive cases were confirmed there. A return date has not yet been set.
