(WVVA) - The WVSSAC has released written guidelines for the winter sports of basketball, wrestling and swimming, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
For basketball, face coverings will be required for all players and coaches in the bench area, as well as for personnel at the scorers table. Handshakes before and after the game will also not be permitted.
The most significant change to gameplay will be the elimination of the jump ball. Instead, the visiting team will be awarded the first alternating possession and begin the game by inbounding the ball.
For wrestling, significant safety measures and modifications are being added for the 2020-21 season.
Competition will be limited to duals, tris and quads or a maximim of 56 high school participants.
Wrestlers are being asked to "shower or wipe down" between each match and change uniforms as much as possible. Face coverings will be required when wrestlers are not competing and will be mandatory at all times for coaches and personnel.
There will be no pre or post-match handshakes and the official will identify winners without contact, as well.
