FAYETTE COUNTY (WVVA)-- As COVID-19 continues to impact events across the nation, a 41 year old tradition in the mountain state is taking new form this year.
Every third Saturday of October Fayette County celebrates the New River Gorge Bridge during the annual Bridge Day event.
The in-person event was canceled and re-branded to be a series of prerecorded videos ranging from base-jumping to appearances from bridge day celebrities
Though this will be a way to continue the tradition that brings nearly one-hundred thousand to fayette county per-year, the bridge day director says there will be some negative impacts due to that cancellation.
"Hopefully we still see people out in the community supporting the local businesses, the dining, the shopping, the lodging attractions and everything. We are still telling people about other things that they can do in the area, but the economic impact I'm sure will not be as great as it has been in the past," said Chair of the Bridge Day Commission, Becky Sullivan.
The event will be hosted tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Facebook.
