Skeletal remains found in Greenbrier County

UPDATED 5:17 PM: ALDERSON, W. Va. (WVVA) - The Greenbrier County Sheriff's office is on Muddy Creek Mountain Road not far from route twelve at a scene where they are investigating human skeletal remains.

According to Greenbrier County Sheriff, Bruce Sloan, the department received a call around 8:00 AM on Tuesday Morning after a resident discovered what was believed to be human remains while working on the property.

Investigators with the department arrived on the scene shortly after and a cadaver dog was called in to help navigate the wooded terrain.

Sloan said at this time little is known about the discovery and it is still an ongoing investigation.

"It's still an open investigation again what we're doing at this point is trying to locate and recover as much of the remains as we can. They will be transported to the state medical examiners office for possible identification at that point," said Sloan.

Sloan said there is no word yet on when the state medical examiner's office will have answers for the unknown information.
