(Summers County) A preliminary hearing was today for a man accused of chaining himself to a pipe while protesting the Mountain Valley Pipeline.

A magistrate determined probable cause for charges against Jeremy Edward Litten. Litten was only the second protester to be charge with felonies in association with protests.

Litten is charged with terrorist acts, trespassing, destruction of property and obstructing an officer.

According to the criminal complaint, Litten crawled inside a section of pipe in a Mountain Valley Pipeline construction site on the morning of May 6. Litten secured himself to the pipe using concrete weights. The complaint indicates Litten refused to speak to police who then pulled him out of the pipe using a rope.

Litten’s case now goes to circuit court.
