City of Bluefield, W.Va (WVVA) A man believed to have walked into a house in Bluefield, shooting at residents while proclaiming to be “Jesus”, is expected to soon be committed into an inpatient mental health facility.

A Circuit Court Judge has determined Terrance Williams is not yet competent to stand trial and must be transported from Southern Regional Jail to William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital, pending the hospital confirming their ability to admit Williams.

Court documents state, Williams is not competent to stand trial because he is not capable of participating substantially in his defense and is not able to understand the nature and consequences of a criminal trial.

However, the court determined a substantial likelihood that Williams could attain competency during a three month improvement period at the hospital.

Pending the end of the improvement period or when the mental health facility determines Williams to be competent, a judge will proceed with a hearing to find if he’s able to stand trial.

Williams is facing charges for malicious wounding, wanton endangerment, and attempt to commit a felony. His bail was set at $50,000 cash-only.

On January 2, Williams is believed to have opened fire on five people inside a home, hitting one person.

The incident continued outside the residence where one individual was able to return fire, striking Williams.

A neighbor who was unaware of the full situation attempted to check on Williams’ condition and was shot.

Everyone survived the shootings.

Police say residents heard Williams making Jesus references throughout the incident.

During Williams arraignment in March, he repeatedly referred to himself as Jesus to Magistrate Susan Honaker.
