Bluefield, W.Va – On Monday, Marty Gearheart, a Republican, who represented WV Districts 24 and 27 from 2010-2018 stopped by the studio to discuss why he’s seeking election in District 27 again. Recently, he filed his pre-candidacy paperwork.

Now, he’s going to be reaching out to voters, especially Republican ones, to seek their vote in the primary, which is scheduled for May 12, 2020. Gearheart says he wants to once again serve the residents of Mercer and Raleigh Counties.

“I think there’s still a lot of work left to be done. I’m pretty certain I did an ‘ok’ job before. The voters have agreed to that..and I think they agree to the ideas I have. I think I can be effective and serve the area,” said Gearheart.

District 27 encompasses most of Mercer County and a part of Raleigh County. Gearheart says he understands the issues these residents care about most.

“I think people want business and that business to be able to employ people…I think they have a great interest in improving our road system, the development of the King Coal highway…we’ve got a lot of good things happening here, and we just need to keep working to make it better and better,” said Gearheart.

Gearheart ran for the 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018. He lost to Carol Miller in the primary.  Miller went on to win in the General Election Nov. 2018, beating Democrat Richard Ojeda.

“I was the General Election candidate in 2008. I have interests there,” said Gearheart. “However, Delegate, now Congresswoman Miller was successful… I’m not unhappy with the work she’s done at this point…you never know what happens in the future, but at the moment, the best place for me to be is in the state legislature.”

Republican Eric Porterfield currently represents Dist. 27. He was elected Nov. 2018.
