Major changes are ahead in the Town of Richlands and it means mixed beverages in restaurants.

60% of Tazewell County Residents voted in favor for the sale of mixed alcoholic beverages by restaurants in the Town of Richlands. The restaurants must be licensed by the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority.

Jose Rizo is the majority owner of El Mariachi Mexican Restaurant. He says the restaurant already had a grandfather clause to sale mixed drinks.

Although there will be more competition for the business, Rizo says businesses being able to sale mixed drinks is good for the Town of Richlands.

“I think a lot of people have been opening restaurants out of Town,” said Rizo. “I think it will be a boom for the Town of Richlands.”

1,074 residents voted in favor for the sale of mixed drinks in the Town of Richlands.
