Peers vote teen with special needs Homecoming Queen at James Monroe

UNION, W.Va. (WVVA) The halftime presentation at the James Monroe High School annual homecoming game stole the show on Thursday.

Haleigh Darnell, who has Down Syndrome, was named by her peers as Homecoming Queen.

Darnell’s escort, Ian Mundell, was named Homecoming King.

“This is proof there is still good in this world,” said her mother Stephanie Darnell,” as they were voted queen and king by their peers.

The couple was escorted by Monroe County Sheriff Mike Heller.
