(Fairlea) The Fairlea fire department received a $125-thousand dollar grant.
The funds came from FEMA and will go towards purchase of self-contained breathing apparatuses. The self-contained breathing apparatuses that the Fairlea Fire Department currently have are set to expire at the end of October.
Fairlea Assistant Fire Chief Gary Workman says, “This we have to have. Anytime we go into an environment that is dangerous to life whether it be smoke some type of chemical gases whatever. This allows us to be able to breathe.”
The grant was part of $3.2 million of FEMA funding spread across 22 fire departments in the state.
