Speed limit remains at 55 mph, I-77 South

Commuters traveling on Interstate 77 between Exit One and Exit Nine have full access to both north and south bound lanes.

But some drivers are asking us: what’s up with the speed limit?

Electronic signage has been placed on the southbound side of I-77, alerting drivers that the speed limit is 55 miles per hour until they reach the East River Mountain Tunnel.

Weeks back, we spoke with District 10 about a guard rail expected to be constructed on the southbound side of I-77, which would keep the southbound area a construction zone.

We’ve reached out to Brent Walker, Communications for the West Virginia Department of Transportation, to confirm the guard rail work and how long the speed limit will remain at 55 miles per hour.  We are waiting for an official response.
