UPDATE: Man arrested in Richlands house fire

RICHLANDS, VA (WVVA) Police in Richlands, Virginia have arrested a man in connection with house fire on Tuesday.

According to Lt. Paul Little with the Richlands Police Dept., James Whitaker, 34, of Richlands was staying in the home unlawfully on Fairfax Avenue and “accidentally set fire to materials in the basement area.”

Whitaker was arrested on Thursday and charged with breaking and entering and petit larceny. He’s being held in Southwest Virginia Regional Jail on a $2,500 secure bond.

Additional charges are pending.
