Tractor trailer accident claims one life in Pulaski County

UPDATE: Trooper J.L. Simone with Virginia State Police responded to the three-vehicle crash on I-81 Saturday night. According to the release, the driver of a military surplus vehicle lost control due to slick road conditions, striking two other tractor trailers traveling southbound. The military surplus vehicle and one tractor trailer came to a rest in the median.

Due to the impact of the crash, one tractor trailer ran off the left side of the highway, through the median, through a guardrail, crossing the northbound lanes striking a fence.

73 year old Ronald W. Harris of Gainesville, Ga was driving the military surplus vehicle and did not survive the accident.

The other two drivers were transported to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

(WVVA) On Saturday night, the Virginia State Police responded to an accident involving three tractor trailers on I-81 south. There is one confirmed fatality, but the name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

The VSP Wythville Divison’s Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.

As of now, it’s unknown if the weather was a factor in the cause of the crash. Anyone traveling I-81 South is to be cautious due to the on-going investigation at the crash scene.
