Lewisburg prepares polls for excess levy vote on Saturday

(Lewisburg) The citizens of Lewisburg will head to the polls tomorrow to renew or deny the city’s “excess levy”.

The excess levy comes up for a vote every five years. The total amount of the additional property tax is a little under 500k dollars, representing about sixteen percent of the city’s annual general fund budget. The general fund finances city streets, police, fire department, parks, capital improvements and snow removal to name a few.

Five years ago during the last levy election 125 people voted. This time it looks like there may be more voters. Lewisburg City Recorder Shannon Beatty said, “As of yesterday we had 89 people vote early and two people cast absentee ballots.”

Voting takes place at Lewisburg City Hall on Saturday from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Bring ID. Beatty said the excess levy has passed for the last few decades.
