UPDATE: Reward doubled in officer shooting

UPDATE: The reward for information on Donquale Gray’s location has increased to $10,000. Today, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) matched the original $5,000 reward by the U.S. Marshals Service.

The U.S. Marshals Service, ATF, Princeton Police Department, West Virginia State Police, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, and Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office are working to locate this armed and dangerous suspect.

Investigators say the incident began at 11:45 p.m. Saturday during a traffic stop on U.S Route 460. They say the passenger in a 2008 Toyota Yaris began shooting and injured the officer while he was standing beside the driver’s side door. Officers returned fire.

The driver of the Yaris got out of the  vehicle and surrendered. The alleged shooter, identified as Donquale M. Gray, 25, of Bluefield, WV, slid behind the wheel and took off. The vehicle was later found in Bluefield, WV.

The 29-year-old injured officer was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and is being treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries. No one else was hurt.

The identity of the officer is not being release at this time.

The driver of the Yaris was cited for a traffic violation and released.

Gray is wanted for attempted capital murder of a police officer.
