(WVVA) House Bill 2730 has passed the West Virginia House of Delegates.

The legislation, introduced by Gov. Jim Justice, would increase the pay for public school teachers and school personnel.

See the breakdown of votes below. The bill will now head to the senate.

(Charleston) Teachers and school service personnel may get that pay raise after all.

A bill originally introduced by the Governor at the beginning of the session covers off on raises for teachers and school service personnel.

After the omnibus education bill or Senate Bill 451 died earlier this week, smaller bills are cropping up to cover off on some pieces of legislation from Senate Bill 451. One of those is the Governor’s bill dealing only with the teacher and school service personnel pay raise. It’s being called a clean bill because it does not have any amendments as of yet.

Del. Joe Ellington (R – Mercer) said, “We moved it through Finance yesterday without any amendments. What happens on the floor is totally different. And then whether the Senate will take it up…you gotta ask them.”

As of this publication Senate President Mitch Carmichael has not said one way or the other. In the House of Delegates the bill is on its third reading February 22 and is widely expected to pass. If it does pass the Senate will then decide whether or not to take up the bill.
