(Charleston) Members of the LGBTQ community were at the Capitol Thursday to spread kindness with cookies, and to speak out about Delegate Eric Porterfield’s recent comments

Last month, Delegate Porterfield made comments comparing the LGBTQ to the Klu Klux Klan and indicated if his son or daughter were gay he would throw them in a river to see if they could swim.

The remarks have caused outrage among the LGBTQ community. They believe Delegate Porterfield should be asked to resign.

Andrea Anderson said, “It would be nice to see the West Virginia GOP ask him to resign. Several members denounced his comments but that seems very disingenuous when they still have him on committees. They have not gone so far as to ask him to resign and I don’t think he’s fit to lead.”

The group also said they were there to stand in solidarity with Muslims after an ant-Muslim display was put on at the Capitol last week during WV GOP Day.
