RICHLANDS, VA (WVVA) A six year project is coming to a close. The Richlands Lady Blues were awarded a grant from Baseball Tomorrow, to help put lights up around the field. This comes after years of turning the old baseball field into the current one.

Baseball Tomorrow is a joint initiative with Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players association. They help local organizations be more effective and self-sufficient.

Assistant Coach David Lamie says multiple teams in the Richlands community would share fields, creating problems for all teams.

“So having lights you get to practice longer and play more games,” said Lamie. He says that both middle and high school teams will be playing under the lights.

But the coaches and players aren’t the only ones excited for night games. Principal Kim Ragstaff says that as a former softball mom herself, it’s exciting to see the team play at night.

“It’s our field of dreams,” said Ringstaff. She says that it’s nice knowing the girls get to reap the benefits of Coach Lamie’s hardwork.

The lights will be put up just in time for the first home game on April 11. There will also be a ceremony before the varsity game to celebrate the grant from Baseball Tomorrow.
