(WVVA) Law enforcement in Raleigh County said a Beaver man went to a church service, knocked over the pulpit and threatened the pastor and congregation.

The disturbance happened on Sunday at the New Beginnings Church on Stanaford Road in Beckley.

The man allegedly told the congregation “he had firearms and was capable of causing harm,” according to Lt. M. A. McCray with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office. Several churchgoers were able to overpower the man and remove him from the building.

Responding deputies placed Jerry Wayne Hall, 54, under arrest for willful disruption of a church service. Five loaded firearms were found during a search of his vehicle. Hall apparently told deputies that he would finish the job once released from jail. So, he was also charged with making terroristic threats. A search warrant was obtained for his home where officers seized more firearms and ammunition.

Hall was taken to Southern Regional Jail on a total of $83,000 bond.
