Saturday kicks off National Park Week with free admission to the parks nationwide.
National Park Week lasts until April 28th and each day has a theme.
Saturday is Junior Ranger Day, Sunday is Military and Veterans day, and Monday is of course, Earth Day.
West Virginia, already known for being wild and wonderful, is taking part in the week’s festivities at our national parks.
Richard Altare, Park Ranger at the New River Gorge National River says, “National Park week is a way to celebrate our nation’s best idea, our National Park System. Starting with Yellowstone back in 1872, we were the first country in the world to establish a National Park. We felt there was some places in our country that were so special that we wanted to protect them and preserve them for the future as publicly owned land.”
The New River Gorge National River is celebrating it’s official kick off weekend with the New River Gorge Wildflower Weekend on April 26th-28th.
