(WVVA) The McDowell County man convicted in the murders of his estranged wife and her 16-year-old son will spend the rest of his life prison.

Circuit Court Judge Rudolph Muresky, II sentenced Michael Glenn Kennedy, 34, to two life terms without mercy plus an additional one to fifteen years for nighttime burglary by breaking and entering. Those sentences are to run consecutively.

Kennedy shot 34-year-old Jessica Daugherty and her son Jeremy on November 27, 2016 at the Daugherty home in Coon Branch. Jeremy died at the scene. Jessica died six months later from the injuries she received.

Following his trial in January, the jury recommended Kennedy not receive mercy during sentencing.
