Construction on I-77 South, expected to be completed Memorial Day weekend

AAA predicts 43 million people will travel this Memorial Day weekend, which is up about 3.6% compared to this time last year.

But if you’re preparing to hit the roads on I-77 from Princeton to Bluefield, be advised, southbound construction may or may not be completed.

The West Virginia Department of Transportation previously stated, they hoped southbound construction would be finished, weather permitting, before Memorial Day weekend.

So far, that timeline, has not been confirmed.

West Virginia Paving could be seen throughout the day working on the Exit 1 southbound “on” ramp and professional flaggers were on site, guiding commuters onto the ramp.

Traffic is continuing to merge into one lane on the I-77 southbound lanes until the East River Mountain Tunnel.
