Some parents and students can relax. The rising cost of a college education will no longer be a concern for students at Bluefield State College. ‘The Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan’ is now offered at Bluefield State. It provides free tuition to qualified students enrolled in summer classes.
The program provides students with up to $1500 to be used for books, transportation and other expenses.
“We serve a region that has been economically challenged over the last generation but we still believe that providing a high-quality education is the ticket to greater success. It’s something that moms, dads and guardians want for all their children. We have a history of that going back to 1895 when we had an African American population that had too many barriers to try and get into a traditional college and university and that’s why Bluefield State was founded,” said Robin Capehart, Interim President of BSC.
