Plea deal rejected, apparent drug-related shooting

MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) A judge has rejected a plea deal in a case involving an apparent drug-related shooting in Princeton.

Jan Williams originally faced first-degree murder charges and was making a tentative plea agreement to second-degree murder.

But Judge Derek Swope rejected the plea deal after hearing statements from the victim’s family.

Williams is being held at Southern Regional Jail until his trial date November 12.

On October 28, 2018, Williams is accused of killing 32-year-old Jason Varney outside of his residence off Kee Street.
