UPDATE: Damages to Grant Street Bridge described as ‘very extensive’

CITY OF BLUEFIELD, W.Va (WVVA) The City of Bluefield has an update about the status of the Grant Street Bridge.

City Manager Dane Rideout says the damages to the Grant Street Bridge are ‘very extensive’ due to salt corrosion and inspectors are still analyzing the results to determine what needs to be replaced and the cost to fix it.

The West Virginia Division of Highways conducted a week-long inspection of the bridge two weeks ago, after receiving permission from Norfolk Southern Railways to access the portion of the bridge they own.

The bridge was shut down in June after a partial DOH inspection revealed major structural deficiencies along the bridge.
