Veterans’ Administration inspector issues statement on Beckley VA sexual assaults

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) Allegations that a doctor at the Beckley VA Medical Center sexually assaulted more than a dozen patients are under investigation by the Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General and its “law enforcement partners.”

The release, issued Monday by VA Inspector General Michael J. Missal, was issued in response to a former patient’s allegation aired initially on WVVA News.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Inspector General (OIG) has been working with our federal law enforcement partners to investigate expeditiously the allegations of sexual assaults at the Beckley VA Medical Center in West Virginia,” Missal wrote.

“As is always the case, the VA OIG takes seriously any allegation calling into question the care of veterans. The facility is aware of these allegations and has taken steps to ensure the immediate safety of its patients. At this time, we cannot comment further on this investigation,” Missal wrote.
