Portion of Lee Street Closed in Lewisburg

LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVVA)- If you live in Lewisburg you may have noticed a portion of Lee Street is closed.

Only a small portion is closed- from Silo Lane to Greenbrier Avenue though it makes the road, which is often used a cut-through to avoid downtown traffic, unusable for that purpose.

But the reason, says West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine President Jemes Nemitz, is to fix the retaining wall which was jutting out into the street. The school will also add a sidewalk and more parking.

The construction will also keep a green space in the campus. President Nemitz said, “It’s just gonna really beautify the front of the school but in addition to that green space is really important in terms of preserving it and having it on our campus.”

As for timing, the initial press release said it would be closed for four to six weeks though today the school’s president said it could take longer but they are working to minimize the amount of time the road is closed.
