ELKVIEW, W.Va. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a West Virginia woman whose 10-month-old baby tested positive for methamphetamine to serve between one and five years in prison.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports 25-year-old Miranda Gale Taylor apologized during her sentencing hearing on Monday and asked the judge to give her a chance.
A jury convicted her in May on two counts of child neglect. Authorities say she placed her son in a situation where he ingested meth in July 2018. He was treated and monitored at a hospital for two days and released.
Kaufman followed sentencing guidelines on the charges, but he ordered the sentences to run concurrently, meaning Taylor would have to serve at least one year in prison.
