On Wednesday night, Richlands hosted Marion in a basketball quad. However, the focus was not on the games, but on 13-year old Zac Carter.
Zac is fighting a cancer known as Metastatic Osteosarcoma for the third time. Throughout the evening, the Richlands athletic department honored Zac and his family by wearing special T-shirts, as well as taking donations to aid in his treatment. People were also invited to write letters and sign cards to be sent to the young man at St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
“He’s been a huge inspiration,” senior Race Moir said. “I go to school with his older sister … She comes in every day and she’s one of the sweetest girls you’ll ever meet. Her family is just all like that. He’s definitely been a big inspiration they way he’s fighting this battle that he’s in.”
The Blue Tornado used that inspiration to grab a pair of victories. The girls took down the Scarlet Hurricanes 57-49. Right afterwards, Race Moir led the boys to an 83-75 victory with a 31 point effort.
