Jenna Witt is on her way to becoming a Concord softball legend.
Last year as a sophomore, she broke school records in batting average (.448) and doubles (23). Her success is something that her coach, Alisa Tasler, saw coming.
“When I watched her coming out of high school, I knew she was going to be a star at this level,” Tasler said. “I’m glad that she kind of found her legs last year and really did a lot of great things.”
Going into the 2019 season, expectations are higher than ever. Her name is on three different preseason All-American lists and she has also been named to the Division II National Player of the Year watch list.
“I definitely didn’t expect it, so when I saw it I was surprised, but also very appreciative,” Witt said.
However, it will be a challenge to live up to the hype.
“I’m a little nervous, but I’m excited at the same time. I’ll just try to do the same thing,” Witt said.
Through all of her success and high expectations, Jenna Witt has stayed grounded and determined to continue improving her game.
“She is so humble and she comes to work every single day,” Tasler explained. “That’s what you’re looking for. That’s the kind of kid everybody dreams of.”
Concord’s season begins on Wednesday at Carson-Newman.
