Woodrow Wilson falls in sectional title game

Rain postponed the Class AAA Region 3, Section 2 winner-take-all game between Riverside and Woodrow Wilson until Wednesday evening.

It was a pitcher’s duel early on, as Woodrow’s Hunter Fansler and Riverside’s Chris Buchanan held the opposing lineups scoreless through three innings.

In the fourth, the Warriors got on the board with a Todd Douglas RBI. However, a Jacob Sheets sac fly tied things back up in the bottom half of the inning.

In the fifth, Fansler was one strike away from working out of a bases-loaded jam, but a walk and a wild pitch gave Riverside the edge it needed.

The Warriors would go on to win, 4-2. They will face St. Albans in the Region 3 championship.
