Greenbrier West announces football, basketball coaching changes for 2019 season

There will be a pair of new faces at the helm of Greenbrier West football and boy’s basketball in 2019.

On Tuesday, the school announced that Toby Harris will replace David Witt as the head football coach. Witt will step down after two seasons of leading the Cavaliers.

Harris returns to Greenbrier West after spending ten seasons as the team’s first coach from 1968-77. During that time, he compiled a record of 65-35-1.

Greenbrier West football will open its season on August 30 at Buffalo. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

In addition, Joey Fitzwater has elected to step down as head coach of the boy’s basketball program. Current athletic director and assistant coach, Jared Robertson, will take his place in 2019-2020.

The team will open their upcoming season on December 13 when they host Independence.

Fitzwater will continue to coach boy’s basketball at Western Greenbrier Middle School next season.
