One local girl’s basketball team is still hard at work after win in Myrtle Beach.

West Virginia Legacy, a team comprised of area middle school girls, ran through a 28-team field to claim victory in a national tournament back in June. They competed against teams hailing from nine states across the east coast.

Head coach Lane Acord said these tournaments like these sharpen the girls’ skills, but also give them lessons and memories to last a lifetime.

“To win a National Championship, you don’t hear that very much,” he said. “So, I mean it’s a big deal and a friends and memories that last forever.”

The team will continue to play other tournaments in Virginia until the start of the middle school season.
