PRINCETON — The Blue Jays overcame a five-run deficit to reclaim the Mercer Cup on Thursday night.

The Rays jumped out to an early 6-1 advantage, thanks, in part, to four RBIs from Diego Infante. But, the Jays turned things around in the eighth inning.

Miguel Hiraldo dropped a 2-RBI double into left field and Spencer Horwitz tied things up a few batters later.

In the ninth, the visitors completed the comeback on a bases-loaded walk. Horwitz would add some insurance, sealing the 9-6 victory.

“Yeah, we never gave up,” said outfielder DJ Daniels. “We knew we had to have good base running, play good defense, have the pitchers do their thing. The coaches did their job. So we all just worked together. We all did our 1/9th of our responsibility and chip in and got the win.”

“I’m so proud of them,” added manager Luis Hurtado. “They never give up, always compete and we’re always trying to do the best we can every time. That’s all for them.”

Both teams hit the road for the weekend, as the 2019 season enters its final week.
