Two rounds of snow, sleet and freezing rain will impact our area this weekend. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories have been issued.

The snow through the day Saturday will be light by afternoon. Light snow showers and even a few pockets of a wintry mix is possible through the afternoon. For our western counties (McDowell, Buchanan,Wyoming) snow transitions to rain/mixing.

ALERTS AND WARNINGS 

Snow and sleet will increase in coverage again Saturday night, with areas west of Interstate 77 (McDowell, Wyoming, Tazewell and even parts of Raleigh and Mercer counties will mix with sleet and freezing rain. Precipitation will likely remain all snow for Greenbrier, Pocahontas, Summers, Monroe and Giles counties.

Precipitation will begin to dissipate Sunday morning with some light snow, wintry mix or even rain showers possible at times Sunday.

Winter Storm Warning: Mercer, Summers, Monroe, Greenbrier, Giles, southeast Raleigh, southeast Fayette and Pocahontas counties 6am Saturday to 7pm Sunday. We’re expecting between 4-7 inches of snow with sleet and freezing rain mixing in at times. Locally higher amounts possible, especially if no sleet mixes with the snow.

Winter Storm Warning: Tazewell, Bland and Wythe counties through 7pm Sunday. Snow and sleet accumulations between 1-4 inches, with up to 0.20″ of ice.

Winter Weather Advisory: northwest Raleigh, northwest Fayette, Wyoming, McDowell from 6am Saturday through noon Sunday. 1-3 inches of snow with some light ice accumulation possible. Rain will mix in quicker in these areas, limiting snow and sleet accumulation

Winter Weather Advisory: Buchanan County, 4am Saturday to 1pm Saturday. Trace up to 2 inches possible before snow transitions over to rain
